An eye-catching bright red bike with two wheels, four seats, eight pedals and 80 spokes is making its way across Australia.

Teachers Louise Ginn, Sonia Allum, Rachel Beaden and Anna Linbeck are covering more than 4,000 kilometres from Perth to Sydney, riding for suicide prevention charity Gotcha-4-Life.

Their choice of transportation, Ruby, is a rare sight in Australia, as only a few dozen of these specific quad tandem bikes have been released worldwide.

And its many notable features have so far left numerous bike mechanics scratching their heads.

Specs and origin

Ruby was custom made by an Oregon-based company in the United States for a charity bike ride in Canada in 2023.

It was one of five quad tandem bikes used in a race from Keremeos to Nelson in British Columbia.
