PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The Trump administration is cutting nearly $8 billion in federal green energy funding, targeting primarily Democratic-led states that voted against the President in the last election.

White House Budget Director Russ Vought announced the move on X, calling the initiative a rollback of “Green New Scam funding.”

Sixteen states are affected, including Oregon and Washington — all of which supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and opposed the GOP’s short-term government funding bill.

Oregon alone is expected to lose $400 million in climate grants and $1 billion has been slashed from the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub. In contrast, hydrogen hubs in Trump-supporting states like West Virginia and Pennsylvania remain fully funded.
