NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A capital murder trial for a Nacogdoches man accused of killing two women ended in a hung jury, and a mistrial was declared Friday, District Attorney Andrew Jones said.

Jones said his office will re-try Ronnie Farrell Jernigan Jr. at a later date.

Jernigan is accused of killing Laura Jean, 73 and Laquice Sanford, 48, mother and daughter, in October 2023. Both found dead from gunshot wounds inside of their home on South Stone Street after police conducted a welfare check.

Jernigan was Sanford’s boyfriend, Nacogdoches police said at the time of his arrest.

The capital murder trial kicked off Monday.
