VIDEO: Hospitals forced to ration IV bags after Helene cuts off supply - Oct. 9, 2024

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) -- The replacement of a McDowell County bridge completely destroyed by Hurricane Helene was completed Friday.

State and local leaders met to commemorate the infrastructural milestone.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the bridge on Pitts Station Road helped people access a neighborhood and medical equipment producer Baxter Healthcare's North Cove facility, the nation's largest IV fluid manufacturer.

“We are reconnecting McDowell County’s largest private employer with a crucial public highway, and we are reconnecting that highway to a neighborhood with families,” said State Transportation Secretary Daniel Johnson.
