Manchester synagogue attacker Jihad Al-Shamie 'does not appear' to have been known to counter-terror police.
But the 35-year-old may have been influenced by 'extreme Islamist ideology', Head of Counter Terrorism Policing Laurence Taylor has said tonight in an update on the investigation. Police have also confirmed reports from earlier today that Al-Shamie had a criminal record, including a recent arrest for an alleged rape, for which he was bailed.
Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, was shot dead by armed police outside Heaton Park synagogue in Crumpsall yesterday morning after killing one man and seriously injuring a number of others.
