OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Staff at Heartland Workforce Solutions said they’re seeing an increase in calls because of the ongoing government shutdown.
Many are asking about their Dislocated Worker Program , which provides assistance to anyone age 18 or older who’s been laid off, whether the layoff is shutdown-related or not.
Project director Dawn Coffey told First Alert 6 that their main goal is to make sure they can help as many people as possible during this time. Her concerns center around job seekers maintaining their ability to pay bills and keep food on the table for their families.
“We want them to come in.” Coffey said. “If they’ve been laid off, we want them to contact us about the Dislocated Worker Program so we can look at connecting them with employers.”
