BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) - The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office has released an apology after a detainee was mistakenly released from the Buncombe County Detention Facility.

On October 2, authorities said detainee Joseph Shustek was accidentally released from the Buncombe County Detention Facility. Shutsek had been found guilty of assaulting a woman on September 11, 2024, and was recently found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon on September 18.

Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller apologized to the public in an official statement.
