BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - In the weeks before Oracle was announced as a leading partner in the U.S. acquisition of TikTok, Congressman Cleo Fields bought shares of the company. According to mandated congressional financial disclosures, Fields purchased between $80,000 and $200,000 worth of Oracle shares in three separate trades on Sept. 17, 18, and 23.
Oracle will be overseeing the new algorithm for TikTok once the sale is complete, President Trump announced in an executive order on September 25th. CNN broke news of the deal before then on Sept. 22.
“Oh, so the president is telling me what he’s going to do?” Fields asked WAFB sarcastically. “C’mon, man. No, I’m going to continue to buy and sell stocks based on the information I receive, just like you, not any insider information.”
