SUNRAY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Sunray ISD is in the running for a million-dollar prize that could transform its football stadium after a windstorm left major damage just before the start of the school year.
In August, high winds tore through the football stadium, destroying the press box, visitor bleachers, and damaging the home stands. Sunray ISD's superintendent, Erin Boatmun, said the storm hit the day before two-a-day, forcing the district to lean on neighboring schools for help.
"So we've had, we've had our neighboring schools have asked us if they could host a game for us," Boatmun said. "We have used and utilized some of those fields throughout the season, and we've played away games, so we just had to kind of make do up until this point."
Now Sunray is one of 25 finalists in T-Mobi
