HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of robbing a bank in Waikiki will remain in jail after a judge denied his request for release.
Charles Christian appeared in court Friday morning on a second-degree robbery charge.
The 66-year-old is accused of robbing the First Hawaiian Bank branch on Kalakaua Avenue on Monday, Sept. 29.
According to court documents, Christian approached a teller and handed her a note that read, “I need money $50 $100. I don’t want to hurt you.”
The teller was unable to provide those exact denominations and left to speak with her manager, documents said.
Christian left the window and was observed spraying a chemical, later determined to be pepper spray, in the lobby before walking out, documents said.
Christian turned himself in at the FBI building in Kapolei
