BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A teenager who stabbed a man to death at a party in northwest Bakersfield was sentenced today. The victim's family spoke out against this sentencing, saying the plea bargain in the case is injustice.
Bradley Perez, 19, was sentenced to six years in prison but is going to spend less than five years due to good behavior and his time already spent in jail.
Perez stabbed Lawrence Leyvas, 20, during a fight at a house party, killing him. Leyvas' family was in court futilely begging the judge to reject the plea offer.
On Oct. 6 at 2:20 a.m., sheriff's deputies were called to Stone River Court and found Leyvas stabbed once in his neck after a fight at a house party.
He was rushed to Mercy Hospital but died just 40 minutes later.
