A six-year-old child and a man in his thirties have died following a collision with a heavy truck near Montreal, according to Quebec provincial police.

Emergency services were called around 3 p.m. Friday to Highway 30 East near kilometre marker 28 in Beauharnois, after a truck rear-ended a car carrying four people, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Camille Savoie.

The man in his thirties was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other occupants of the car were transported to hospital, where the six-year-old was later pronounced dead. Both victims were seated in the back of the vehicle, Savoie confirmed.

The front-seat passengers, a man and a woman, suffered serious injuries but are expected to survive.
