BEVERLY – In a game that came down to the final minute, Beverly defeated Danvers, 28-27, a feat that was accomplished through its defense.
In dire need of points, Danvers put together a picturesque eight-minute drive in the heart of the fourth quarter. It was punctuated Jack Houston’s nine-yard touchdown sprint, and Danvers coach Ryan Nolan then elected to go for the two-point conversion to take the lead.
Tension turned to elation at the Beverly High Stadium when George Frost and Teddy Fisher combined to stop Zachary Fultz just shy of the goal line, cementing the win for Beverly.
“That’s the biggest play of my life,” said Fisher. “Once I looked, I saw he was short. It was such a great feeling.”
