GREENVILLE, S.C. —
An Upstate outbreak of Measles is being investigated by the South Carolina Department of Public Health.
Epidemiologists reported eight confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease as of Oct. 1. Two in July, one in early September and five more recent, within the span of a little more than a week.
Two of those cases have an unknown source, indicating unrecognized community spread. Five have been traced to a potential undisclosed school, which remains open, according to the department. Children who are believed to be exposed or diagnosed are expected to quarantine.
The department was unable to disclose exact locations for the exposure because of patient confidentiality. Every case reported does involve a patient who was unvaccinated or did not have immunity from me
