Privately-owned prison operations company CoreCivic has announced it will operate an Oklahoma facility that has been vacant since 2010.
Tennessee-based CoreCivic announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded a contract between the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to resume operations at the company's Diamondback Correctional Facility in Watonga.
The facility has 2,160 beds and has not been in operation since 2010. According to CoreCivic's website , it has been owned by the company since 1998.
According to CoreCivic, Diamondback will begin receiving detainees in the first quarter of 2026. It expects to begin fully operating in the second quarter of 2026.
