AUSTIN, Texas — Stevie Ray Vaughan would have turned 71 years old on Friday, Oct. 3, had his life not been cut short in a helicopter crash in 1990 .

Vaughan grew up in Dallas at a time when – like many kids who grew up in the 1950’s - he had a typical, suburban, middle-class family life.

An early picture from a family photo album shows a young Stevie Ray playing a small guitar as he practices a song with his older brother Jimmy.

From such beginnings, who could have guessed that the boy with that little guitar would become the legend we know today as Stevie Ray Vaughan.
