Two 15-year-old boys are accused of murder in the death of a woman whose body was found in late May behind an Española strip mall.

The incident isn't the only act of violence in which police suspect Leon Law and Isaiah Nicholas Maestas. The pair — arraigned Friday in state District Court on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the slaying of 43-year-old Monica Carter — have been held without bond in the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center in Farmington on suspicion of opening fire on a group of homeless people sleeping in tents outside the Española Pathways Shelter.

Carter, too, was believed to be homeless. An online obituary says she was a mother of two with a "gentle spirit."
