NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish coroner has identified the man who was fatally shot during a carjacking while picking up his child from daycare in Mid-City.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3500 block of Bienville Street around 5:13 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30. Responding officers said they found a man who had been shot a block away in the 3400 block of Canal Street.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

NOPD officials said he was picking up his child from a daycare. Hours later, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies said they found the alleged suspect, identified as Raymond Wells, shot inside the allegedly stolen car on Interstate 10 near the Bonnabel exit.
