FARGO — Late in the third quarter, Fargo Davies running back Kane Mathiason rumbled in for a 1-yard touchdown. It was No. 3 for him.

What came after was somewhat mysterious to the swaths of fans populating Sid Cichy Stadium. Across the far side of the field past 25th Street, fireworks illuminated the unusually hot October night.

Whether they were lit off for Mathiason, or likely for some other reason. Mathiason took note and was impressed.

“When I saw that it really just put it all together,” Mathiason said. “It was beautiful.”

Mathiason’s three-touchdown night helped the No. 2 Eagles power past the top-seeded Fargo Shanley Deacons 42-22 on Friday to capture the 25th Street Showdown Trophy in North Dakota Division 3A football.
