ASHEVILLE — Down 3 points in the third quarter of Reynolds football’s conference opener against Erwin on Oct. 3, coach Shane Laws wanted another run play dialed up to senior Jayden Smith.

Smith, who had just been stopped for no gain, was due.

Smith took the ball to the right side, hitting the numbers, and ran into a pile of bodies. But the legs kept churning, he found a gap and was gone 43 yards for the go-ahead score in a 14-10 win .
