MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The North Carolina Department of Transportation reports a new bridge now stands in place of one destroyed by Hurricane Helene in McDowell County.

Flooding destroyed the bridge on Pitts Station Road over the North Fork Catawba River which served a neighborhood and vehicles coming and going from Baxter Healthcare, the nation’s largest producer of IV fluid and the largest private employer in McDowell County, according to the NCDOT.
