PORTSMOUTH – Quarterback Andy Brown and the Portsmouth/Oyster River high school football team felt it had something to prove in its game against Seacoast rival Winnacunnet on Friday, Oct. 3 at Tom Daubney Field.

The ClipperCats entered the game with three straight losses after a season-opening win over Dover, and their aspirations for a playoff berth were hanging by a string. On the other hand, Winnacunnet was one of five undefeated teams in Division I and was coming off an emotional win at rival Exeter last Saturday.

After giving up a Winnacunnet touchdown in the final seconds of the first quarter, Portsmouth scored the next 26 points and earned a hard-fought 26-13 win.

“I think (Winnacunnet) looked down on us,” said Brown, who completed 14 of his 21 pass attempts for three touchdowns
