BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A new law in Alabama is drawing sharp criticism from immigration advocates, who say Senate Bill 53 opens the door for racial profiling within the Hispanic community.

An immigration attorney helps to break down what the law could mean for residents across the state.

Zaira Solano is the founder of the Solano Law Firm . She warns that a single traffic stop could put anyone at risk.

“What does an illegal look like? We don’t know,” Solano said.

Under SB-53, local law enforcement now has broad authority to question anyone they suspect might be undocumented.
