Cory Paix has always felt he belonged in Broncos colours, making his decision to fight through a season spent in NRL exile and secure a one-year extension a simple one.

Despite all the criticism directed at Brisbane coach Michael Maguire for a harsh training regimen, which left players vomiting, the hooker was at home during a brutal preseason slog.

“I find it fun,” Paix said with a shrug, ahead of Sunday’s grand final against the Melbourne Storm.

“It’s in my nature to bite down on the mouthguard and go for it. That’s where you found out a lot about yourself during those tough times.”

While it took time for the Broncos to adjust, Maguire’s methods have been vindicated.
