WATERFORD — You never wanna leave the door cracked.
No. 10-ranked South Lyon knew that the Lakes Valley Conference wasn’t going to be settled Friday night, but they didn’t want to leave the door cracked for the other contenders by losing to upset-minded Waterford Mott.
But when the Corsairs left the door cracked just a smidge in the fourth quarter — missing a point-after touchdown attempt — it was enough for the Lions to slip through the opening just before it slammed shut, roaring back for a 21-20 win to keep them unbeaten, and still the lone resident of the driver’s seat in the LVC race.
“Still feels great. I’ve been undefeated since freshman year. Haven’t lost a game. So it feels great to have a comeback win right there and come on on top,” said junior Tyler Newton, who scored the ga
