US President Donald Trump’s controversial executive order approving a $100,000 fee for the H-1B visa on September 19 has faced its first major challenge. A coalition of healthcare providers, religious organizations, educators, and advocacy groups filed a federal lawsuit in San Francisco on Friday to halt the Trump government’s sudden imposition of a $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications.
The plaintiffs argued that the fee has halted hiring plans and pushed employers, workers, and federal agencies into confusion. They also argued that the sudden financial burden could jeopardize the ability of employers to fill essential roles, harming both public services and economic innovation. Todd Wolfson, president of the American Association of University Professors, said, “This new fee will drive
