Firefighters battled flames that spread from the garage up to the first floor of a Canoga Park townhome Friday but stopped it from moving to the second floor or an adjacent unit.

The fire was reported at 9:58 p.m. Friday at 21720 W. Hart St., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.

The 42 firefighters who arrived at the scene put out the flames in 26 minutes, Stewart said.

No injuries were reported. Three of the occupants’ five cats were located and firefighters continued to search for the other two. The cats’ conditions were not available.
