Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised questions over what he described as “coordinated” calls by multiple leaders for a central agency to investigate the death of cultural icon Zubeen Garg.
In a Facebook Live session, Sarma referred to demands by event manager Shyamkanu Mahanta, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia, and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi for the case to be handed over to the CBI, claiming all three have expressed a lack of trust in the Assam Police and the state government’s Special Investigation Team (SIT).
“Of late, Shyamkanu Mahanta, INCAssam and Akhil Gogoi are all making the same demand — that they don’t trust Assam Police and a central agency must probe the demise of beloved Zubeen. Is it a coincidence that all these characters are speaking in one voice?” S
