TEMECULA — Chaparral football combined an aggressive defense and bravado on offense Friday to hand Vista Murrieta its first loss of the season, 28-20, in the Big West Conference-North Division opener.

The Pumas registered their first home victory against Vista Murrieta since the series began in 2004.

The Pumas evened their record at 3-3 heading into a Week 7 matchup at Murrieta Valley, the No. 2-ranked team in the Inland region.

Vista Murrieta (5-1) will travel to play Centennial.
