Israel carried out fresh strikes in Gaza on Saturday, killing six people just hours after US President Donald Trump directed an end to the bombardment and announced that Hamas was ready for peace.
According to local authorities, one Israeli strike hit a house in Gaza City, killing four people, while another strike in Khan Younis, in southern Gaza, killed two others.
The attacks came shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel was preparing for an “immediate implementation” of the first stage of Trump’s Gaza plan, which involves the release of Israeli hostages following Hamas’ response. Israeli media later reported that the country’s political leadership had instructed the military to reduce offensive operations in the enclave.
