Plans for a development of 432 homes integrated with the historic Winstanley Hall complex of buildings in Wigan have been submitted.

The hall, dating back to the 16th century – mainly vacant since the end of the Second World War – has suffered from recent vandalism and theft and is a ‘very poor condition’.

Restoring the hall to its former glory would cost more than £26m, according to documents on Wigan’s planning portal.

Lancashire developer Kingswood Homes has submitted a full planning application for 396 new-build homes on land adjacent to Pemberton Road and a further 36 within the converted 16th century hall, which is Grade II listed.
