SEATTLE – Allen Schmertzler dedicated much of his life to educating the next generation, working as a high school teacher in Portland, where his subject was social science.

Now, retirement has given him time to focus on another passion: political art. In 2019 he published a collection entitled “Occupied by Trumpistan: Dying & Surviving in Our Unpredictable & Twisted Reality”.

Like many Portland residents, Schmertzler, 72, was shocked by Donald Trump’s announcement last weekend that he was deploying national guard troops to the city , in an operation similar to ones carried out in Los Angeles and Washington, DC earlier this year. New Feature
