Downtown Spartanburg development projects set to begin this fall will result in the elimination of approximately 200 street-level, outdoor parking spaces.

The city-owned lot on West Broad Street will close on October 5 as crews prepare to begin the construction of a new city-county joint government building.

Another parking lot will lose about half its capacity in the coming weeks – that’s at the corner of West Broad and Spring streets, where The Johnson Group is preparing to construct apartments.

Despite losing these surface lot parking spaces, there are plenty of places to park in downtown Spartanburg, said the city’s communications manager, Christopher George.

“We have plenty of capacity,” George said.
