Two Indian tourists have been sentenced to five years and one month in prison, along with 12 strokes of the cane, for robbing and assaulting two sex workers in Singapore. Arokkiyasami Daison, 23, and Rajendran Mayilarasan, 27, were on vacation in Singapore when they committed the crimes. They arrived on April 24 and, just two days later, were approached by a man in Little India who offered them the contact details of two women for sexual services.

The men decided to meet one of the women in a hotel room, where they tied her hands and legs with clothing and assaulted her. They stole her jewellery, SGD 2,000 (approximately ₹ 1.38 lakh), her passport, and bank cards. Later that night, they arranged to meet another woman and similarly robbed her of SGD 800 (around ₹ 55,000), two mobile phones, and her passport.

The police were alerted after the second victim confided in another man about the incident. During their interrogation, Arokkiyasami and Rajendran claimed they were in need of money, which led them to commit the robberies. In court, Arokkiyasami expressed remorse, stating, "My father passed away last year. I have three sisters, one of whom is married, and we have no money. That is why we did this." Rajendran also mentioned his family's financial struggles back in India.

The court's decision reflects Singapore's strict laws regarding robbery and assault, which can result in severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and corporal punishment. The men pleaded guilty to the charges, and their actions have drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crimes committed during their holiday.
