Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer on Saturday, October 4, was confirmed as the new vice-captain of India’s ODI team. He will be Shubman Gill’s deputy in the upcoming three-match series in Australia.
Iyer has played a total of 70 ODIs for Team India so far, and with the help of five centuries and 22 fifties, he has amassed a total of 2845 runs. His batting average in the 50-over format of the game is 48.22.
The news of Iyer’s promotion to the role of vice-captain was confirmed by the BCCI via tweet, after which chief selector Ajit Agarkar also addressed the media in Ahmedabad to confirm the news of the new role for the Mumbai-based batter.
