Friends Sandy DiVita and Jane Fitzgerald usually window shop at Gallery Eleven on their morning walks on Fridays at the Charleston Town Center mall, before the store opens. They plan on an hour-long walk.

"But we spend a half-hour in front of their window," Fitzgerald said on Friday.

DiVita, of Charleston, and Fitzgerald, of Belle, were treated to an early shop opening this Friday, and plan to return to Gallery Eleven, an artists' cooperative that celebrates its 50th anniversary Sunday with a reception, special art displays and pricing.

The cooperative, which was founded by eleven local artists in 1975 (hence the name), currently has 13 members and showcases their work on a rotating basis at the store. Members volunteer at the shop and give a portion of the proceeds from their art sal
