BOONVILLE — It's been nearly half a century in the making, but the Boonville Pirates are playing in front of a new set of bleachers this season.

The previous set of bleachers, along with the field, was built in 1979 by farmers and local contractors and had been the home of the Pirates ever since.

"The bleachers had just ran their course, and it was time for an upgrade," Boonville Athletic Director Chris Shikles said.

The project is just one part of a bigger school district project.

In 2024, voters passed Boonville R-1 School District 's Proposition 3, which granted a $10 million no-tax-increase bond to improve the facilities of David Barton Elementary, Laura Speed Elliott Middle School and Boonville High School.
