Former Indian cricketer and chairman of the men’s selection committee, Ajit Agarkar, has said that the decision to replace Rohit Sharma with Shubman Gill as captain did not correlate with the former leading India to a win in the Champions Trophy, adding that at some point in time, a team has to look forward.

Agarkar did not disclose Rohit’s reaction to losing the ODI captaincy role but described the decision to change the ODI skipper as a very hard one.

Notably, India clinched the Champions Trophy in their most recent ODI campaign under Rohit’s leadership.

“Even if he hadn’t won the Champions Trophy, it would have been a difficult decision because of how good he has been for India. But you have to sometimes look at what is coming forward," Agarkar said while speaking to the media.
