New York is one of several states being sued by the U.S. Department of Justice for not providing all of the voter registration information the agency has requested.
In addition to New York, separate lawsuits were filed against California, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, the department's Office of Public Affairs announced in a Sept. 25 news release . The department previously announced lawsuits against Maine and Oregon on Sept. 16.
"Clean voter rolls are the foundation of free and fair election," Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a news release. "Every state has a responsibility to ensure that voter registration records are accurate, accessible, and secure — states that don't fulfill that obligation will see this Department of Justice in court."
