Hastings, N.Y. - A severely disabled woman kept in a filthy, 100-degree shed in Oswego County was likely only a couple days away from death when rescued, state troopers said Friday.

The 46-year-old woman had so little liquid in her body that she had stopped sweating, a sign of heat exhaustion, said Sgt. Aaron Eastwood, who works from the State Police’s Hastings office.

She was dehydrated, lethargic, covered in bruises and had multiple broken bones, investigators said in a criminal complaint.

Troopers found her in the dilapidated shed outside a home in the 1300 block of Route 11 in Hastings in late July.

Her primary caregiver, who neighbors confirmed is her mother, was arrested Wednesday.
