JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. — On Wednesday, renowned primatologist Jane Goodall passed away at age 91. Goodall, regarded as a pioneer of primate behavior, devoted most of her life to field research of chimpanzees.
On 30-acres of forested land in Jessamine County, staff and volunteers at the Primate Rescue Center care for eight chimpanzees and several monkey species. Executive director Eileen Dallaire said Goodall was a guiding light for anyone working with primates.
“All of that knowledge that she was able to share with the world informed how primates should be treated and cared for and protected,” Dallaire said.
Goodall studied chimpanzee behavior in Africa.
“I think her impact was really about them as individuals and not just how close we are to them biologically but emotionally and in
