The New York Mets are starting their early offseason with major changes in the dugout. After missing the playoffs, the team has decided to move on from a big part of its coaching staff. While many fans wanted manager Carlos Mendoza fired, ownership is standing by him – at least for now.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that the Mets have decided to overhaul nearly the entire staff around Mendoza. Among those leaving are pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, hitting coaches Jeremy Barnes and Eric Chavez, and bench coach John Gibbons. The ownership group has also let go of third base coach Mike Sarbaugh and catching instructor Glenn Sherlock, who is retiring.
