LITTLE VALLEY, N.Y. (WIVB) -- This week’s hike is at Rock City State Forest in Little Valley, Cattaraugus County, which not far from Ellicottville. It's a unique experience as hikers get to walk through formations of gigantic, sculpted boulders.
At times, it looks like you’re walking down streets of rock skyscrapers. Some features of the area are named Big Subway, Rockefeller Plaza and Wall Street. The rock formations are the product of gradual erosion of hilltop rock.
Visitors can spend a good deal of time exploring Little Rock City or they can hike elsewhere in the state forest, where there are various smaller rock formations. Hikers can also continue to the next-door McCarty Hill State Forest, which shares a boundary with the Holiday Valley and Holimont ski areas.
