President Donald Trump issued what appeared to be a final warning to the Palestinian government and military organization Hamas to accept his peace plan, and “quickly,” otherwise “all bets will be off.”
Trump unveiled on Tuesday a peace plan to bring about an end to Israel’s siege on Gaza and a return of the Israeli hostages, a plan that, despite last-minute changes from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was received mostly favorably by Hamas. On Friday, Trump demanded Israel halt its siege on Gaza, but was quickly rebuked as the nation continued its military campaign, killing at least 20 people through Saturday morning.
Israel’s siege has been halted, however, at least according to Trump, who in a social media post on Saturday, issued his warning to Hamas to accept his proposal.
“I appreciate that Israel has temporarily stopped the bombing in order to give the Hostage release and Peace Deal a chance to be completed,” Trump wrote in an online post on his social media platform Truth Social. “Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!”
Trump has previously demanded that Hamas accept his peace proposal by Sunday, and under threat that the organization would face “hell like no one has ever seen” should it refuse.
