In a move aimed at promoting digital transactions and reducing cash payments at toll plazas, the Government of India has announced a new rule for vehicles without a valid FASTag.
Starting , vehicles entering National Highway toll plazas without a valid or functional FASTag will be charged if they choose to pay using . However, if they pay in , they will continue to be charged .
The said this amendment to the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 is a step toward encouraging digital payments, improving transparency in toll collection, and enhancing the overall user experience on highways.
According to the ministry, the revised system will incentivize digital payment adoption while discouraging cash transactions at fee plazas across the country.
