The Toronto Blue Jays are going with a rookie in Game 2 of the ALDS.
Trey Yesavage will start on Sunday at home against the New York Yankees, manager John Schneider announced on Saturday.
Yesavage, 22, made his MLB debut in September and started three games down the stretch, posting a 3.21 ERA while striking out 16 over 14 innings pitched.
The Game 2 nod marks the latest step in what has been a rapid rise for Yesavage, who began the season with single-A Dunedin.
Now, he’s set to share the mound with Yankees ace Max Fried in what promises to be a pivotal contest at Rogers Centre.
“Trey will start tomorrow, Shane (Bieber) will start Game 3, and then from there, trying to just maximize as many bullpen arms as we can,” Schneider said on Saturday.
