A fire that broke out at a Chevron refinery in El Segundo on Oct. 2 is leaving some Southern Californians concerned about its impact on the air quality.

The El Segundo Fire Department responded to a fire at 9:32 p.m. on Oct. 2. The fire originated at a process unit at the southeast corner of the refinery, according to El Segundo fire officials.

Allen Ross, a spokesperson with Chevron, told the Desert Sun in an emailed update at 10:42 a.m. that the fire was out and that Chevron is investigating to determine the cause of the fire. Ross said Chevron is working with local, state and federal agencies, including CalOSHA, CALOSPR and South Coast Air Quality Management District.
