Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas Over Peace Deal
US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Hamas, urging the militant group to swiftly accept his proposed peace plan for Gaza. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that if Hamas does not act quickly, "all bets will be off." He expressed gratitude to Israel for pausing its bombing campaign to facilitate the peace negotiations, which aim to secure the release of hostages and establish a ceasefire.
Trump emphasized that he would not tolerate any delays in the peace process, stating, "Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off. I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!"
The urgency of the situation is underscored by Trump's ultimatum, which gives Hamas until Sunday evening to accept the peace plan or face severe consequences. He described Hamas as "militarily trapped" and warned that failure to agree would lead to significant retaliation. Trump noted that over 25,000 Hamas fighters have already been killed in the ongoing conflict, and he urged civilians to evacuate areas of potential danger in Gaza.
The proposed peace plan includes an immediate ceasefire, the release of 20 living Israeli hostages, and the return of the remains of others in exchange for hundreds of detained Gazans. Trump has called for full humanitarian aid to be sent to Gaza once both parties reach an agreement. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed opposition to any arrangement that would allow Hamas to govern Gaza or support the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Hamas has indicated that it is still discussing aspects of the proposal related to governance and Palestinian rights. The situation remains fluid as both sides navigate the complexities of the peace negotiations, with Trump asserting that the plan has the backing of various regional and global powers.
As the deadline approaches, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
