Southern Michigan Bank and Trust has announced temporary relief measures for customers affected by the partial government shutdown.

The bank is offering case-by-case assistance to federal and state employees, contractors, vendors and others whose income may be disrupted due to the shutdown, according to a community announcement. Customers are encouraged to contact their local SMBT representative at 800-379-7628 or visit a nearby branch to discuss available options.

“We recognize the unexpected financial hardship many are facing as a result of the government shutdown,” John Waldron, president and chief executive officer, said. “We are here, and we are committed to supporting our customers during these challenging times.”
