A contractor working at a powerhouse outside of Marquette in the Upper Peninsula was killed Friday, Oct. 3, and another was hospitalized after being overcome while working inside a large pipe.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the work-related death that took place Friday morning at the Upper Peninsula Power Company’s Hoist Powerhouse in Negaunee Township.

The sheriff's office said the name of the worker who was killed is being is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the individual’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Dan Freeborn, manager of UPPCO's Communications and External Affairs, said in a post to the company website. "UPPCO is fully cooperating with all authorities involved
